The Gray-headed Chickadee is an arctic species that is broadly distributed across northern Europe and Asia, where it is known as the Siberian Tit. In North America, it is only found in  Alaska, Yukon and the NWT. Little is known about this species in Canada, but its population is very small and presumed to be declining.  In Yukon, there have been only two observations since 2000 despite extensive surveys in 2019.  There are old records of this species from the NWT but no recent ones.

Gray-headed Chickadee was assessed as Endangered in Canada in May 2024.
