Description:

The Eastern Red Bat is an insect-eating migratory bat that is suspected to occur in the NWT in the summer. It is one of three migratory bat species assessed as Endangered by COSEWIC (Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada) in May 2023.

The Eastern Red Bat population in Canada has declined dramatically in recent years. During their migration, Eastern Red Bats are exposed to many threats including the risk of mortality from collisions with wind turbines. Widespread declines in insect abundance, habitat loss and pesticide use are also threats to the Eastern Red Bat.

An NWT Bats Management Plan is available here.
