The NWT Species at Risk Committee is preparing to assess the status of the Drummond bluebell (Mertensia drummondii) in 2018. Before it completes this assessment though, help is needed confirming the range and habitat of the Drummond bluebell in the NWT. The last known sighting or information on the Drummond bluebell is from 1995 on a gravel sand bar near the Horton River.
This plant is currently known to occur in glacial refugia areas in the NWT, Alaska, and Nunavut. In the NWT, it is only known to occur near the Horton River, in Tuktut Nogait National Park, and in the Paulatuk area. It's known to grow on isolated sand dunes in these areas.
Have you seen this plant in the NWT?
If so, can you tell us where?
