Under the Species at Risk (NWT) Act, residents and stakeholders can have their say before decisions are made on listing species, conservation actions, management and recovery.

    Draft Species Status Report for American White Pelican in the NWT - Open for public review

    The NWT Species at Risk Committee has released the draft Species Status Report for American White Pelican in the NWT for review. Comments on the draft report must be submitted to the Species at Risk Secretariat no later than January 4, 2023.


    Draft Species Status Report for Dolphin and Union Caribou in the NWT - Open for public review

    The NWT Species at Risk Committee has released the draft Species Status Report for Dolphin and Union Caribou in the NWT for review. Comments on the draft report must be submitted to the Species at Risk Secretariat no later than January 15, 2023.


    Draft Management Plan for Northern Mountain Caribou in the NWT - Now closed

    The Conference of Management Authorities has released a draft Management Plan for Northern Mountain Caribou in the NWT. The Species at Risk Secretariat accepted comments on the draft plan until October 31, 2022. The final management plan is due in July 2023.

    Proposed Re-listing of Peary Caribou and Boreal Caribou - Now closed

    The Conference of Management Authorities is considering extending the listing of Peary caribou and boreal caribou as Threatened species on the NWT List of Species at Risk. The Species at Risk Secretariat accepted comments on the proposed re-listing until October 31, 2022. Listing decisions for Peary caribou and boreal caribou are expected by July 2023.
